Description
The GYFTS optical cable consists of single-mode or multi-mode fibers housed in loose tubes made of high-modulus plastic, filled with water-blocking gel. The central strength member is a non-metallic FRP rod; for specific fiber counts, a polyethylene (PE) layer may be extruded over the FRP. Between 5 and 12 loose tubes (and fillers) are stranded around the central strength member to form a compact and circular cable core, with the interstices filled with water-blocking compound. The core is longitudinally wrapped with a steel–polyethylene laminated tape (PSP) and then extruded with a polyethylene (PE) outer sheath. This design provides adequate lightning protection, making the cable especially suitable for regions prone to thunderstorms. Fiber color coding can be either standard or full-spectrum.
